About this artwork
A serpent coils around a staff in Asklepois, Hans Hofmann's abstract interpretation of the ancient symbol. The composition balances tension and harmony, drawing the viewer into its rhythmic dance.
The bold, sinuous lines of the snake contrast with the rigid verticality of the staff. Hofmann's use of color is restrained yet impactful, with the serpent rendered in a vivid green that stands out against the muted background. The interplay of shapes and colors creates a sense of movement and energy.
This print brings focus to a study or library, where its symbolic depth can be appreciated.
