About this artwork

Canto II emerges from Barnett Newman's exploration of color and space. This artwork invites contemplation through its bold simplicity and commanding presence. A single blue band cuts through a field of warm red, creating a sense of division and unity. The colors are flat and unmodulated, emphasizing the purity of the hues. The canvas is large, allowing the colors to breathe and interact with the surrounding space. This poster brings focus to a quiet study or reading nook, where its presence can be absorbed without competition.
