About this artwork
The raw canvas texture dominates Canto Xll, its surface alive with subtle variations. Barnett Newman’s signature zip cuts through the composition, a slender white band dividing the field. The ochre ground asserts itself, warm and unmodulated, while the white stripe hovers, neither advancing nor receding. It simply exists, a quiet interruption in the expanse of color. The edges of the zip reveal the artist’s hand, slight imperfections that ground the work in human presence. This is a poster for spaces that embrace stillness, where the interplay of simplicity and texture can be fully appreciated.Questions about Canto Xll
