About this artwork

A cloister courtyard unfolds in geometric precision. In Cloister Of Monreale Sicily, MC Escher transforms architecture into a puzzle of perspective, where columns and arches repeat in rhythmic patterns, creating a sense of infinite space within confined walls. The artwork's muted palette of ochres, umbers, and soft whites enhances the interplay of light and shadow. Escher's meticulous crosshatching and precise lines guide the eye through the labyrinthine structure, where each archway frames another, dissolving the boundary between foreground and background. This print suits a study or library, where the quiet complexity of the image invites contemplation.
