About this artwork
A towering cottonwood tree dominates the frame. In Cottonwood III, Georgia O'Keeffe presents a monument of the American Southwest. The tree's pale, smooth bark contrasts with the rough, dark trunks of distant cottonwoods.
The sky is a clear, pale blue, almost white in places, suggesting the intense light of a desert day. The tree's verticality is emphasized by the absence of other elements, creating a sense of solitude and quiet strength. The stark simplicity of the composition draws the eye upward.
This poster fits well in a room with high ceilings, where the vertical lines of the tree can be appreciated. It brings a sense of calm and strength to a space.
