About this artwork
A skeletal figure stands atop a plinth, holding a flag in its right hand. This is Paul Klee’s Death For The Idea, a work that confronts the viewer with its stark, symbolic imagery.
The figure’s ribcage is exposed, revealing a hollow chest cavity, while the flag it holds is a muted palette of red, white, and blue. The background is a flat, unadorned plane of pale yellow, putting the focus entirely on the figure and its solemn duty. The work’s simplicity belies its depth, inviting contemplation of its meaning.
This poster fits seamlessly into a study or library, where its quiet intensity can be appreciated.
