About this artwork
A lone ice house stands on the frozen shore of Lake Superior. Lawren Harris’s Ice House, Coldwell, Lake Superior captures the quiet strength of this solitary structure against the vast, icy landscape. The stark lines of the building contrast with the smooth expanse of snow and ice, creating a sense of resilience and solitude. The cool blues and whites dominate the scene, punctuated by the deep browns and grays of the ice house. Harris’s precise brushwork renders the texture of the wood and the smoothness of the snow, while the distant hills fade into a pale, misty horizon. The composition balances the geometric form of the ice house with the organic shapes of the natural world. This print brings a sense of calm and isolation to a study or reading nook.Questions about Ice House, Coldwell, Lake Superior
