About this artwork
A single white stripe emerges from a field of deep red. This is Jericho, Barnett Newman's exploration of simplicity and contrast. The stark division creates a sense of tension and balance, drawing the eye to the interplay between the two elements.
The dominant red expanse is interrupted only by the slender white stripe, known as a 'zip' in Newman's work. The zip runs vertically, dividing the canvas and creating a sense of symmetry. The simplicity of the composition belies its complexity, inviting contemplation and introspection.
This poster makes a striking addition to a modern living room or a minimalist office space.
