About this artwork
A skeletal mobile hangs in midair. This is Knochen Mobile, a 1981 work by Sigmar Polke that plays with the macabre and the whimsical. The bones are suspended as if caught in a gentle breeze, yet their stark white contrasts sharply with the soft background.
The artwork features a delicate balance of elements, with the bones arranged in a seemingly random yet harmonious composition. The background is a muted wash of colors, providing a subtle backdrop that allows the bones to stand out. Polke's use of space and form creates a sense of movement and dynamism, as if the mobile could start turning at any moment.
This poster suits spaces that appreciate a touch of the unconventional. It fits well in a study or a modern living room, where its unique subject matter can spark conversation.
