About this artwork
A desolate beach stretches endlessly under a heavy sky. Operation Sea Lion, Kiefer’s haunting vision, pulls the viewer into a world both stark and unsettling. The horizon line divides the composition, with the sea and land rendered in muted grays and browns. The texture of the paint is thick and deliberate, almost sculptural. Dark, jagged lines cut across the scene, suggesting both natural erosion and human scars. The palette is restrained, dominated by earthy tones that feel cold and unyielding. There is no refuge here, only the raw confrontation of land and memory. This print commands attention in a study or library. It invites quiet reflection, demanding space where contemplation is the primary occupation.Questions about Operation Sea Lion
