About this artwork
A brown jug rests on a red table. This is the scene that Mary Fedden presents in her artwork, Red Table, Brown Jug. The simplicity of the subject belies the complexity of the composition.
The table, awash in a bold red, dominates the scene, its surface reflecting the light. The brown jug, unassuming yet central, is flanked by a scattering of objects. A blue vase, a white bowl, and a yellow fruit add splashes of color to the scene. The background, a muted green, provides a calm counterpoint to the vivid foreground.
This poster brings a sense of quiet contemplation to a kitchen or dining area, where the still life can be appreciated in a setting it might have inspired.
