About this artwork
A single, unpeeled orange floats in a glass of water. Mary Pratt's Specimen From Another Time is a study in contrasts, where the ordinary becomes extraordinary through her gaze.
The orange's vivid hue is muted by the water, creating a play of light and shadow. The glass, transparent yet distorting, sits on a surface that reflects its contents. The background is a soft blur, allowing the viewer to focus on the interplay between the orange and the water.
This print finds its place in a kitchen or dining area, where the everyday act of eating fruit can be contemplated anew.
