About this artwork

A sundial and geometric patterns fill the frame in MC Escher's Sundial Xxiv Emblemata Rejected Plate. This artwork, created in 1931, showcases Escher's early exploration into intricate designs and precise draftsmanship. The composition features a central sundial surrounded by symmetrical shapes and motifs. Escher's use of stark contrasts between black and white creates a sense of depth and dimensionality. The interplay of light and shadow adds to the overall complexity of the image, drawing the viewer in. This print finds its place in a study or library, where its detailed lines and patterns can be appreciated up close.
