About this artwork
A winding path cuts through the cityscape in Frank Auerbach's *To The Studios*. This is not a shortcut, but a deliberate journey through layers of urban texture and time. The painting captures the essence of movement and place, with every brushstroke telling a story of passage and persistence. The thick application of paint creates a tactile surface, where ochres and umbers dominate, punctuated by flecks of lighter hues. Auerbach's signature impasto technique renders the scene almost sculptural, as if the path itself has been carved into the canvas. The buildings loom in the background, their details obscured by the density of the foreground, adding a sense of depth and mystery. This poster brings a piece of London's gritty charm into any space. It suits a study or living room where texture and depth are appreciated.Questions about To The Studios
