About this artwork

A blue rectangle rests atop a yellow one, both floating on a red field. This is *United (blue, Yellow, Green On Red)*, a 1954 work by Mark Rothko. The composition is simple, yet the colors are complex, layered, and luminous. The blue rectangle is a deep, rich cobalt, while the yellow is a soft, muted hue. They sit on a red field that is both warm and intense. The colors are applied in thin, translucent layers, allowing the light to pass through and create a sense of depth. The edges of the rectangles are soft and blurred, blending into the red field. This poster brings a sense of calm and contemplation to a study or library.
