About this artwork

A dark horizon splits the canvas. Forrest Bess's Untitled, No. 12a presents a vision of stark simplicity, where the division between earth and sky becomes a meditation on duality. The lower half, a deep umber field, grounds the composition. Above, a lighter expanse of muted ochre stretches out, its uneven edge suggesting a hand-drawn line rather than a mechanical division. The texture of the paint reveals the artist's hand, with subtle variations in the surface adding depth to the seemingly flat planes. This print commands attention in a study or library. Its quiet intensity invites prolonged viewing, rewarding those who pause to contemplate its subtle complexities.
