About this artwork
A man’s head is centered against a pale background, the composition balanced and direct. This is Wayne Thiebaud’s Wayne (267), a portrait that holds your gaze with its simplicity. Thiebaud’s brushwork is loose yet deliberate, with soft ochres and muted browns shaping the face. The background remains nearly bare, its subtle texture allowing the figure to dominate. Shadows are gentle, hinting at depth without overpowering the quiet presence of the subject. This portrait fits naturally in a study or hallway, where its understated presence can be appreciated up close.Questions about Wayne (267)
