About this artwork
A man in a suit and tie looks directly at us. This is Wayne, a self-portrait by Wayne Thiebaud that balances formality with a quiet, personal presence. The artist’s face is rendered with soft, precise strokes, his expression calm and steady against the muted background. The subtle play of light and shadow across his features adds depth to the composition, drawing the eye to the details of his attire and the gentle contours of his face. The portrait is grounded in a palette of subdued browns and grays, lending it an understated elegance. Thiebaud’s technique is evident in the careful blending and the delicate transitions between tones, creating a sense of quiet introspection. The simplicity of the background ensures that the focus remains on the subject, making it a study in both character and craftsmanship. This portrait fits naturally in a study or office, where its composed presence complements a space dedicated to focus and reflection.Questions about Wayne
