About this artwork
Above a mid-century credenza, Wayne Thiebaud's self-portrait titled Wayne holds its own. The artwork is a study in quiet confidence, where the subject's gaze meets ours with an unspoken understanding.
Thiebaud's use of soft, muted tones creates a gentle contrast with the sharp lines of the subject's suit. The background, a blend of creamy whites and pale blues, is both subdued and striking. The artist's signature crosshatching technique adds texture and depth, inviting closer inspection.
This portrait finds its place in a study or library, where the thoughtful atmosphere complements the introspective nature of the piece.
