About this artwork
Thick, buttery brushstrokes build the face in Wayne, a self-portrait by Wayne Thiebaud. The artist’s hand is visible in every daub of paint, each stroke confident and deliberate. The composition is simple, with a muted palette of ochres and creams, allowing the texture of the paint to take center stage. The background is a soft, neutral tone, ensuring the focus remains on the expressive face and the artist’s technique. This portrait would suit a study or den, where its quiet intensity can be appreciated up close.
