About this artwork
A man’s head and shoulders fill the frame in Wayne, a portrait by Wayne Thiebaud. The subject’s gaze is directed away from the viewer, lending an air of quiet contemplation to the composition. The artist’s use of muted greens and browns creates a subdued palette, while the loose, expressive brushwork adds a sense of movement and life to the piece. The background is a soft, indistinct wash, allowing the figure to dominate the scene. This print would complement a study or library, where its thoughtful mood can be appreciated.
