About this artwork
Wayne Thiebaud's self-portrait, titled simply 'Wayne,' offers a glimpse into the artist's introspective side. The artwork is a departure from his more colorful works, showcasing a different facet of his artistic range.
The portrait is rendered in muted earth tones, with subtle shifts between ochre, umber, and hints of cobalt. Thiebaud's face is turned slightly, adding a sense of quiet contemplation. The brushwork is loose yet deliberate, capturing the essence of the subject with minimal detail. The background is a soft, blurred neutral, ensuring the focus remains on the artist's face.
This understated piece fits well in a study or library, where its quiet presence can be appreciated without competition.
