About this artwork

A hill rises gently, its slopes captured in the lines of Frank Auerbach's Working Drawing For Primrose Hill. This is not a landscape, but a study of one, where the artist's hand is as present as the subject itself. The drawing is a network of lines, some bold and decisive, others tentative and exploratory. The hill is built from layers of crosshatching, creating a sense of depth and texture. The paper itself becomes part of the image, its white spaces peeking through the denser areas of mark-making. This poster suits a study or library, where the quiet intensity of the drawing can be appreciated up close.
